AIM To evaluate the effect of chitosan on rat body weight, concetration of plasma leptin and serumtestosterone.METHODS Five groups of rats were respectively given access to basic diet, high fat diet and high fat dietwith different doses of chitosan (1.5%,3.0% and 6.0% of chitosan in high fat diet respectively) for 7 wk.All rats were weighed once a week. By the end of wk 7, the animals were sacrificed and their blood sampleswere taken, the concentration of plasma leptin and serum testosterone were determined by RIA Kit method.RESULTS At the end of wk7, the average body weight of rats treated with high-fat diet was 67.3 gheavier than that with the basic diet, however, the average body weight of rats treated with high doses of chitosan in high-fat diet was 56.3 g lighter than that with high-fat diet (P < 0.01). In addition, plasma leptinconcentration in rats treated with high fat diet was significantly different from those with basic diet(P<0.01); plasma leptin concentration in rats treated with high dose of chitosan in high-fat diet wassignificantly lower than those with high-fat diet (P<0.01), but was significantly higher than those withbasic diet (P<0.05). Serum testosterone level in rats treated with high-fat diet was significantly lower thanthose with basic diet (P<0.01). Serum testosterone levels in rats administrated high dose of chitosan inhigh-fat diet were sighificantly lower than those with high-fat diet (P<0.01).CONCLUSION Chitosan prevents the increase of rat body weight induced by high-fat diet, and lowersplasma leptin and serum testosterone in rats.

Objective To study the change of plasma and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) insulin levels and the relationship to intellectual level in patients with multi infarct dementia (MID).Methods The concentration of insulin in plasma and CSF was determined by RIAs in 55 patients with MID. 72 patients with cerebral infarction(CI) and 32 normal subjects were used as controls. Mini mental state examination (MMSE) was used to examine the intellectual level of patients, with DSM IV diagnosis standard and Hachinski Ischemia Score as references. Results The patients in MID had significantly higher plasma insulin level than that in normal controls ( P < 0.01 ), but lower CSF insulin and reduced CSF to plasma insulin ratio (P< 0.01). There was a positively correlated between CSF to plasma insulin ratio and MMSE score for MID as a whole. The patients in CI acute phase group had a higher plasma insulin levels than that in normal controls ( P < 0.05 ) , but CSF to plasma insulin ratio differed statistically from either MID acute episode group or stationary phase group ( P < 0.01 ). Conclusion The change of plasma and CSF insulin levels may be one of the pathophysiological mechanisms that bring about intellectual level decline in MID. CSF to plasma insulin ratio may be used as a marker of intellectual level declining for patients with MID.

  • Clinical use of Plasma and Plasma Fractions in Bleeding Disorders

    作者:王兆钺

Internal and/or external bleeding is a common and sometimes very severe clinical manifestations of disorders of hemostasis. It may follow minor trauma or may arise apparently spontaneously. Disorders of hemostasis are generally divided into those caused by abnormalities of platelets, abnormalities of blood vessels, abnormalities of plasma coagulation factors, and hyperfibrinolysis, or com-binations of these. The use of plasma and plasma fractions dependents on the causing diseases and their severity. Several plasma products and plasma fractions are availa-ble in China and other plasma components and deriva-tives are commercially obtained. There have been the guidelines for their clinical use, and the revised ones will soon be published by Chinese Medical Association.
